Something you may not know about me is... I am a Certified Aromatherapist and currently studying Herbology! Why? Well it all started way back when I was a little girl (ok, i won't go that far back :). Seriously though, I was born with eczema and several food and chemical allergies, which fortunately many of I have outgrown, but sensitive skin remained. As I got older and started researching skin sensitivities, chemical sensitivities, etc. lead me to my journey of Aromatherapy and understanding the science of plants and nature. I'm not going to bore you and go into great detail, but I am going to say that the science of nature, plants and herbs has been around for thousands of years and has dated scientific reasearch and proof that "IT WORKS"! The problem is, like many other things, our society has spend countless hours and used millions of dollars to chemically alter what nature has given us! This is why I choose to start making my own soaps and skincare and bypass the chemically, mass produced items out there today! On this note, I am going to share with you my findings, knowledge, and research on natural foods, products and general information - I hope you enjoy! I just made this most amazing Olive Oil Soap and thought I would share with you why this Oil is one of my fave's;
Natures Gift Olive Oil The Basics Olive oil has been used in Mediterranean countries for thousands of years and is quickly becoming more popular here in North America. Did you know that Olive Oil is actually a pure fruit juice and unlike most seed or vegetable oils, it does not require any heat or chemicals to extract the oil and requires no refinement. Health & Nutrition The reason olive oil is so good for us is because it’s high in mono unsaturated fat, vitamin E, and antioxidants. It contains 120 calories per tablespoon. All edible oils contain about the same amount of calories. Eating a healthy diet that includes olive oil in place of other less healthy fats offers many health benefits. Personal Care and Other Uses My search for natural soaps and shampoos and body care is what really sparked my interest in olive oil. I was looking for products that were free of sodium laurel and laureth sulphates, parabens, synthetic thickeners, colours, preservatives and fragrances, which are in a large amount of commercial products. A pinch of rosemary and a drop of essential oil does not make a natural product as the manufacturers would lead you to believe. I was completely unaware that such dangerous chemicals were permitted in the products we use everyday and there just isn't any good reason for it. Sure, there are only small amounts of these synthetic chemicals, but we use those products every day, over and over again and leave them on our skin to be absorbed into our bloodstreams!!! OLIVE IS AMAZING FOR OUR BODIES, INSIDE & OUT!
NEW from Dr.Nancy: The “Real Deal” on Botox and Fillers
If you’re looking for a non-surgical solution to look younger, and want a treatment that really works, Botox and fillers may be the answer for you.
Maybe it’s just a wrinkle or fine line here or there. Maybe you just want to look as young as you feel … refreshed, not tired…
Botox Cosmetic® is a medical treatment that can erase, diminish, and prevent lines and wrinkles. The goal of Botox is to refresh your expression, and when given by an experienced physician, will enhance but not change the way you look.
Botox is a tiny protein, imported from Ireland, which, when placed in areas that will wrinkle, stops the wrinkling process. Botox has been licensed in Canada since 1990, and approved by Health Canada for wrinkle therapy since 2001.
Many facial lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines between the brows as well as horizontal forehead creases are formed by the action of muscles that lie beneath the skin. Botox Cosmetic can change how the muscle interacts with the skin by relaxing the muscle. This erases or diminishes wrinkles and lines, as well as prevents them from forming.
A Botox treatment involves injecting a tiny amount of Botox Cosmetic into the muscle being treated. This is done with a very small needle, and causes minimal very brief pain (seconds). After consultation and treatment planning, the actual treatment should take only 10-15 minutes.
You will begin to see the results of Botox Cosmetic a few days after the treatment. Lines and wrinkles may continue to diminish for up to one week to two weeks.
A Botox treatment should last 3 – 4 months, but may last longer with repeated use.
Fillers instantly smooth lines, wrinkles and replace lost volume. Fillers are gels, with each product comprised of its own unique ingredient. Juvederm currently has the greatest market share. Juvederm is a soft injectable gel filler made of a hyaluronic acid, a sugar normally found in our skin.
Juvederm is most often used to smooth away lines around the nose and mouth, and to plump up cheeks or lips. Radiesse is another popular filler with excellent longevity.
Before a filler treatment, the skin is cleansed and may be made less sensitive with a topical or local anesthetic. Using a needle, the filler is gently placed in the areas to be treated, instantly replacing lost volume. Most individuals find the procedure minimally to moderately uncomfortable – but well worth the effort. After consultation and planning, a treatment is normally completed in 15-20 minutes. Results are immediate and last from 6 to 18 months, depending on the area treated as well as the choice of product. The overall effect of treatment with Botox and fillers is a balanced, refreshed look that’s totally you. About the author: Dr. Nancy de Kleer is a Plastic Surgeon in Oakville, Ontario.
